As a professional event planner for more than 20 years, I believed that bigger was better … until my daughter’s 6th birthday.
For that party, she got everything she ever wanted, including live hula dancers and a visit from Elvis (flown-in from Vegas). We had about 60 guests including friends, family, and business associates. And it was a BLAST … for everyone but my daughter. She was overwhelmed and isolated, even though the party was for her. She kept asking me if she could go to her room, and why her friend Elvis kept singing (we later learned that she thought Elvis was there to play with her, not sing for everyone).
As an event planner, my ego was hurt. As a mother, I was downright damaged! All that work, all that planning, all that MONEY … and it was not what my daughter wanted. She asked for it, but it’s not what she really wanted. We talked, and in her precious 6 year old way, she explained to me what is important to a child on their birthday, and that's when Bugaboo Parties was born.
